in the west end

If we begin with breakfast, two things could happen. Well, any number of things could happen, but what I mean to say is that we could have either a good time or a bad time. If we begin with breakfast and have a good time we can maybe carry on in to the day: navigate the too-small aisles of that book store, pick up cheap Indian, and in our wandering follow the sounds of acoustic guitar to some nook where we can recline and share a coffee. On the other hand, if we begin with breakfast and have a bad time, well, we have to part awkwardly, pretend we have things to rush off to, like scrubbing the couch and ironing our pants, and then spend the day stomaching our disappointment, embarrassment, disdain, and so on. I see your point about Autumn mornings and big bowls of Chai, but I think I’ll have to decline. Perhaps we can begin with dinner, at some point during the week?

I’d like to think the girls won’t have breakfast with me because they’re scared of unfulfilled expectations. But they don’t have dinner with me either. Maybe the thought of dinner gets their hopes up too? Michael mightn’t smooch us. But he would, I say, he would. Michael mightn’t love us. But he would. Their anxiety is unimpeachable, so I take things slow, just hello looks and waves as we pass.

Hi T&E, I’m already in love with your Sundays. This one is sweet and heart-breaking at the same time. Poor lonely Chai Guy.

Thanks for your comment, Steph! But hope you don’t feel too heartbroken… Perhaps lonely Chai Guy will find love one other Sunday?
